NHK Laboratories, Inc. Makes Donation to Madagascar Families

SANTA FE SPRINGS, Calif./September 1, 2010 – NHK Laboratories, Inc., announced that it has donated 400 bottles of 30-count children’s multiple-vitamin chewable tablets to the impoverished families of Tsinjoarivo, Madagascar. The donation will be distributed through Sadabe, which is a non-governmental organization in Madagascar that is run by researchers from McGill University.

According to M. Amirul Karim, CEO of NHK Laboratories, Inc., the donation is part of an ongoing social responsibility initiative at the company. Mr. Karim said, “As manufacturers of wellness products, we have a moral and ethical responsibility to espouse health locally and globally.” Mr. Karim added, “This donation will provide hundreds of children in Tsinjoarivo with essential vitamins and nutrients necessary for their physiological growth and development.”

“This donation will have a huge impact,” said Karen Samonds, co-founder of Sadabe. “The recipient families are living in extremely remote areas, typically 4-6 hours on foot from the nearest market, and in an agriculturally marginal landscape. Rice harvests are often ruined by cold rains and the high-altitude climate, and families are often forced to subsist largely on cassava and sweet potatoes, lacking the money to have a more varied diet.”
